Lesson From The Praying Mantis

Don’t pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it. A man is powerful on his knees. ~ Corrie Ten Boom

“Oh no!” I gasped after learning that I accidentally hit this almost invisible creature with the stream of water coming from the hose as I was watering the potted plants in the backyard.

Its color similar to the brownish hue of its environment. But as it was washed away with a small spray of water from the hose that probably was like a deluge for him, he slowly returned to a greenish hue.

My husband specifically reminded me one morning as we were both marveling at this creature for me not to kill it. Knowing that little critters bothered me sometimes. For it ate insects like mosquitoes, moths, aphids and other bugs usually harmful to the garden.

But what struck me the most was its position as I observed it. It was always in a “praying-like” position.

Yesterday, as I went outside, I found it nestled and hiding behind one of the posts of our patio cover. It looked like it was still praying but appeared stronger than after I hit it with the water.

“Thank God!” I uttered softly.

I found myself praying silently. I found myself wanting to be like the PRAYING MANTIS.

Though existing in a harsh and ever changing environment, it never ceases to pray. It is always ready so as not to be PREYED but instead, always has that stance to PRAY. It is always ready and alert so as not to be eaten by other creatures.

How true as believers of Christ! That if we make our minds always conscious what God says for us to do:

To always be joyful. Always PRAYING. And to always be thankful,” we will see everything in a different light. Whatever circumstances are going on around us, those will not affect us being joyful, prayerful and thankful  as long as we are determined to do His will.

May we all have a prayerful attitude at all times!

Pray without ceasing. - 1 Thessalonians 5:17

  2. I read this, and the post before it about Nurse Nina. It is always such a breath of fresh air to visit your blog and stay a while. You are able to view the events and circumstances of your life from a heavenly perspective. Even a simple insect as the praying mantis with its folded forelimbs, truly a good reminder for you and me to pray at all times. I loved the quote from Corrie Ten Boom. Your post is another confirmation of what God is also speaking to my heart. Dear kababayan, may you be surround by God's hedge of protection in your line of duty, and beyond. Shalom, Lidia
