Different Kinds of Onions
“Life is like an onion: you peel it off one layer at a time, and sometimes you weep.”
~ Carl Sandburg
Tears started flowing. As I removed my eyeglasses and started squinting my eyes from the burn I felt immediately after. I started feeling better yesterday, Thursday. No more nagging cough. No more box of tissues nearby.
“Why don’t you rest?” queried my hubby.
“Because you know me, I can’t sit around.”
He was concerned because I never rested the entire week that I was sick. I had been thanking God for giving me the strength that He sustained me with. That I was able to clean, cook, wash dirty clothes.
I always try to make something early for dinner. I made a sour broth with the beef I had in the freezer. Because it was easy to make. Just chop up tomatoes, onions and added the veggies I had in the freezer. I didn’t want to waste any.I wanted to use the lemons I bought the other day.
I was chopping up those onions when I felt the stinging, tangy scent that wafted under my nostrils. I was thankful it didn’t become a “crying fest”.
Onions remind me of us. How we all look different. How some can produce mild or others, strong aromas. Same aromas that give the taste or flavor of what is being cooked.
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
