It's Time To Wake Up
Thanks to sisters Charlotte and Ginger for hosting this warm, encouraging place once a week. Please visit Spiritual Sundays and meet many special friends who gather together, for His glory! Thanks be to God for the unity that comes from His love. Blessings to all of you...
“What happened?” I asked the female diabetic inmate as she was walking in, yawning and rubbing her right eye.
“I had done all the accuchecks [blood sugar checks] with the rest of the group and I noticed you weren’t with them. How are you anyway?”
“Sorry, they didn’t call me. Good morning, Ma'am,” she replied smiling as she had known me from the past accuchecks time. With her tone of voice comfortable to talk to me in that manner, in a friendly way yet without disrespecting me.
“I’m sure they did [referring to the person who handles all the controls in their unit]. I spoke with her and said that she kept calling you but you didn’t come out. You know, I’d still call for you anyway, right? It has to be done before you eat and you need your insulin dose.”
“Sorry again, Ma’am. Thank you for calling for me,” as she grabbed the Accucheck machine and poked her finger.
“11 Another reason for right living is that you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for the coming of our salvation is nearer now than we first believed. 12 The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So don’t live in darkness. Get rid of your evil deeds. Shed them like dirty clothes. Clothe yourself with the armor of right living, as those who live in the light. 13 We should be decent and true in everything we do, so that everyone can approve of our behavior. Don’t participate in wild parties and getting drunk, or in adultery and immoral living, or in fighting and jealousy. 14 But let the Lord Jesus Christ take control of you, and don’t think of ways to indulge your evil desires.” ~ Romans 13:11-14

From time to time in the life of the church there needs to be a wake up call to some simple and central and basic things. One of these is: Christianity is a converting religion. It is evangelistic. It is persuasive and expansive and missionary. It is not coercive. It does not use the sword, manipulation, or brainwashing. But it does proclaim, and persuade and plead and pray. And where this is not believed and practiced, Christianity ceases to be Christianity and starts to become another religion with another king who no longer says, "I am God Almighty; be fruitful and multiply." When we lose a passion to see people won over to Jesus, we lose Jesus.
Christianity is a soul-winning, out-reaching, mind-persuading, heart-entreating, rescuing, missionary faith, or it is not true Christianity. We need to be reminded of this, because it is almost incredible how listless we can become while calling ourselves Christians. Little by little our whole orientation can become inward. We can go for months and years and not think about those who perish. We become so dull and spiritually callous that we don't even ask if we believe in hell or lostness or the preciousness of Christ and the power of the cross and the freeness of the gospel and the command of Jesus. We just go about our in-house religious business like a medical clinic that sees fewer and fewer patients and has more and more staff meetings, until there is nothing left but a smooth running program for the doctors and nurses and their families. That is what happens to many churches.
It certainly is time to wake up. Unfortunately millions are not even aware of that fact. It is later than we think. Interesting video. Thank you for sharing these thoughts. Blessings, Charlotte
I'm glad I stop by today. I love your post. The video is excellent. I will share it with others.
"If Christianity seems to you to be having rather less than a remarkable impact on the earth, it is because too many Christians have this idea that we are in a waiting game, that we are basically killing time until Jesus comes back and we all get to go to heaven. We are sitting around like people waiting to catch a flight. That is not what Jesus told us to do; He didn't say, 'Now hold tight in those pews and twiddle your holy thumbs, I'll be back soon as I can.'" (from Love & War by John and Stasi Eldredge, page 111) Jesus gave us a mission: the Great Commission! Let's be active in serving the King of kings and furthering His kingdom! Yesterday, I posted something with similar message: http://bornagainandblessed.blogspot.com/2010/02/until-whole-world-hears.html .
